What you can drive
- Rigid vehicles with two axles and a GVM over 8 tonnes
- Trailers up to a maximum GVM of 9 tonnes
- Specialised vehicles such as tractors under 15 tonnes GVM
Eligibility
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have held a valid Class C (car) licence for at least 12 months
- Meet the medical fitness requirements
Licence conditions
The vehicle you test in determines your transmission condition:
A
Automatic only
Test in an automatic vehicle — licence restricted to automatic transmission.
B
Synchromesh
Test in a synchromesh manual — drive any synchromesh gearbox vehicle.

Unrestricted
Test in a crash (non-synchro) gearbox vehicle — no transmission restriction.
What you'll get: We train and test in automatic vehicles, so your licence will carry an A (automatic only) condition. The B and unrestricted conditions above are shown for reference — talk to us if you need a manual assessment.

A written multiple-choice assessment completed at a TMR customer service centre before practical training.

Four hours of one-on-one training in our MR truck, covering vehicle controls, road craft and the full TMR assessment criteria.

One hour with a TMR examiner in the same truck you trained in — familiar, predictable, no surprises.

Common questions
What can I drive with an MR licence?
Rigid vehicles with two axles and a GVM over 8 tonnes, trailers up to 9 tonnes GVM, and specialised vehicles like tractors under 15 tonnes GVM — think delivery trucks and small buses.
Do I need truck experience before starting?
No. You just need to have held your Class C car licence for at least 12 months and be 18 or older. We take care of the rest, starting from your first hour in the truck.
What's included in the package?
Four hours of one-on-one training plus a one-hour practical driving test in our truck. TMR knowledge test and licence fees are paid separately to TMR.
What are the transmission conditions?
Test in an automatic and your licence carries an A (automatic only) condition. Test in a synchromesh manual for a B condition, or in a crash gearbox vehicle for an unrestricted licence.
