About this course

At LicenceLane we provide comprehensive training programs to help you obtain your Heavy Combination licence and operate heavy vehicle combinations safely across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

What you can drive

  • A prime mover towing a single semi-trailer
  • A rigid vehicle towing a trailer with a GVM over 9 tonnes
  • Everything covered by an HR licence

Eligibility

  • Have held a valid MR or HR licence for at least 12 months
  • Meet the medical fitness requirements — some conditions require a doctor's certificate

Licence conditions

The vehicle you test in determines your transmission condition:

A

Automatic only

Test in an automatic vehicle — licence restricted to automatic transmission.

B

Synchromesh

Test in a synchromesh manual — drive any synchromesh gearbox vehicle.

Unrestricted

Test in a crash (non-synchro) gearbox vehicle — no transmission restriction.

What you'll get: We train and test in automatic vehicles, so your licence will carry an A (automatic only) condition. The B and unrestricted conditions above are shown for reference — talk to us if you need a manual assessment.

Common questions

What can I drive with an HC licence?

A prime mover towing a single semi-trailer, or a rigid vehicle towing a trailer with a GVM over 9 tonnes — plus everything an HR licence covers.

Do I need an HR licence first?

You need to have held either an MR or HR licence for at least 12 months before you can upgrade to HC.

Why is the HC package longer than MR and HR?

Combination vehicles add coupling, trailer reversing and articulated handling to the test. The six training hours give you real time on those skills before the examiner sees you.

Are there medical requirements?

You must declare that you're medically fit to drive a heavy vehicle. Certain medical conditions require certification from your doctor — we'll walk you through it when you book.
