The Gold Coast TMR pages list practical testing at Southport, Helensvale, Burleigh Waters and Currumbin Waters. The available class and appointment must be confirmed before booking. A transport office that handles licences does not necessarily run practical tests.

Centres and nearby alternatives

The table reflects individual official centre pages checked on 2 October 2026. Bethania and Logan are in Logan City; Beaudesert is in the Scenic Rim.

Bundall (opens in a new tab)'s customer service centre page does not list practical driving tests among its offered services. Use a centre with testing listed and verify the appointment location in TMR's booking confirmation.

Heavy vehicle applicants

Southport lists car tests only, and Bethania excludes heavy vehicle tests. The Helensvale, Burleigh Waters and Currumbin Waters pages do not spell out the available heavy classes. Confirm LR, MR, HR or HC directly with TMR before arranging a truck or private test-day service. Generic practical-testing wording is not evidence that every class is available.

TMR does not conduct MC practical tests. For the heavy classes it does assess, the vehicle must meet the class-specific test specifications, including the required transmission for the entitlement sought.

Select a practical location for the whole appointment

Compare the available centres against where you will start the day, the class needed and the vehicle you can use. An appointment at a different end of the Gold Coast may require more travel and a longer private vehicle booking. An earlier date is useful only if the rest of the arrangements are workable.

Allow for the journey to your meeting point, any warm-up lesson and arrival at the test centre. The meeting point supplied by an instructor may be different from TMR's address. Save both locations with clear labels and check the time at which each part begins.

If you are considering Logan or Beaudesert, recognise that these are nearby alternatives outside the Gold Coast. Ask about travel and vehicle availability before making a government booking there. Do not assume an instructor serving your suburb also provides test-day support at every centre in the region.

Confirm the class before paying for a truck

A centre's website may list practical driver testing without naming every heavy class. For LR, MR, HR or HC, ask TMR whether the class is available at that location and confirm it in the appointment details. A car appointment cannot be treated as a truck assessment simply because the same office handles other licensing transactions.

Then confirm the training provider has a compliant assessment vehicle available for that centre and time. Ask about the gearbox and the licence condition expected from the assessment. If the vehicle changes, recheck those details rather than relying on the original photograph or package description.

Leave sufficient time for travelling with the vehicle and completing the appointment. A heavy vehicle's expected on-road assessment duration is not the same as the total hire period you may need to reserve.

Prepare for changing road conditions

Use practice sessions to develop safe decisions across suitable roads, rather than memorise one sequence of turns. Practise observing signs, choosing lanes early, adjusting speed and giving way. Your instructor can identify which situations need more work before an assessment.

The examiner's route is not guaranteed by a private provider. Traffic, roadworks or other conditions may change what you encounter. If you miss a direction, continue safely and lawfully rather than making a sudden manoeuvre to return to a remembered route.

When practising near the centre, keep driveways and assessment areas clear and avoid following another learner's test. There is no need to recreate somebody else's appointment to develop the skills required for your own.

Keep the government and private arrangements aligned

Record the TMR booking reference, centre and appointment time. Separately record any warm-up, instructor attendance and test-vehicle booking. Check whether the private price includes the government test fee; do not infer this from words such as test support.

If you need to change a date, read the rules for both services and contact each provider. Rescheduling through TMR does not automatically move an instructor's availability, and a private cancellation does not cancel the government appointment. Confirm replacements before assuming the day has been reorganised.

If the test cannot proceed because of a vehicle problem, follow TMR's directions and the applicable private booking terms. Keep the relevant messages and receipts so you can explain what happened accurately. Avoid assuming all cancellations have the same refund outcome.

Make a simple arrival checklist

The day before, check your current licence, any additional identity documents, medical certificate where required and the vehicle arrangements. Confirm the official address and allow enough time to arrive at least 20 minutes before the appointment. Read any current notice about access or meeting arrangements.

Plan who can drive afterwards under either result. A successful assessment still needs to be followed by the required licence issue, while an unsuccessful applicant may remain subject to learner conditions or other limits on authority. Check this in advance if you are using an overseas licence.

Use TMR's centre pages and booking service for the latest information. A directory can help organise your options, but it cannot guarantee appointment availability or replace the location stated in your confirmation.

Dates and test-day arrangements

Use the official TMR booking service or call 13 23 80. Check eligibility and any required logbook approval and hazard perception test before booking. Some applicants cannot complete the booking online and need TMR assistance.

TMR lists Saturday car testing at Southport and nearby Logan, subject to appointments. Its practical-test page says heavy vehicle tests are not currently available on Saturdays. Do not use general counter opening hours as a substitute for the time on a confirmed test booking.

Choose a centre you can reach comfortably and practise varied roads with lawful supervision. Allow time for traffic and parking. Arrive at least 20 minutes early with the required documents and a suitable vehicle.

Check the government booking's cancellation and rescheduling deadlines and manage any instructor booking separately. Familiarity with the area can help preparation, but no centre or route guarantees a test outcome.
