Applying and getting verified
You create an account with your name, email, phone and a password, and confirm a code sent to each of the email and the phone. The application then runs in five steps in your portal: about you, licence classes, suburbs, availability and documents. Every step saves, so you can leave and come back before you submit. When you submit you tick to accept the Instructor Partner Terms and Code of Conduct; the accepted version, date and time are recorded (Instructor Terms, clause 1). That single acceptance is the agreement — there is no separate contract to sign.
The application asks for your driver licence, instructor licence, insurance and a photo, plus a working with children check if you teach the car class, front and back where there is one. Each of these except the photo needs its expiry date. Some requirements are set by law in your state or territory and some are LicenceLane policy; a lawful exemption is accepted where one applies. LicenceLane may verify them with the issuing body (clause 4), then either approves the application, asks for more information in your portal, or declines it with a reason. Once approved, review your pricing and payout details, then activate your availability to receive bookings. A verification badge on your profile is a point-in-time check, not a government endorsement (clause 4).
Your public profile
Learners see your name and photo, the classes you teach, the suburbs you cover, your vehicle and transmission, the price and your open times. You must keep your profile, classes, vehicle, service area and availability accurate (Instructor Terms, clause 9), and you must never promise a guaranteed pass, licence or fixed number of lessons (clause 7). LicenceLane may display the profile material you supply while your account is active (clause 14).
Availability and how bookings reach you
You set your weekly hours, book leave and choose suburbs by radius around your base. You also choose the gap kept between lessons (15, 30 or 60 minutes; 30 unless you change it), so you are never booked back to back across town. Activating your bookable hours lets an eligible learner book and pay for any open slot straight away, without further approval from you (Instructor Terms, clause 9).
The learner pays online at booking. The slot is held for 15 minutes while they pay; if payment fails the slot reopens. Once payment succeeds the booking is confirmed, appears in your portal and you are notified. You can add, edit or block unbooked time at any time, but you cannot reject a confirmed booking because a better opportunity has come up (clause 9).
Pricing, platform fees and payouts
LicenceLane sets the price the learner pays for each service. The price, commission, payout fee and your estimated earnings are shown before you activate availability (Instructor Terms, clause 10). Commission is 10% inclusive of GST on bookings confirmed by 28 February 2027, even if the lesson is later, and 20% inclusive of GST on bookings confirmed from 1 March 2027. If LicenceLane raises commission or the payout fee, it tells you in advance; your availability isn't paused (clause 11).
LicenceLane receives the learner's payment as your agent and deducts the commission. Completed lessons become eligible for payout seven elapsed days after they end, and eligible amounts are paid in your next weekly or fortnightly Monday payout run, or the next banking day if applicable. A $10 payout fee (GST inclusive) comes off each transfer, not each lesson. Your statement shows bookings, GST, commission, refunds, chargebacks, adjustments, the payout fee and the net amount, and is LicenceLane's tax invoice for its fees. If you're not registered for GST, no GST is charged on your lessons (clause 12).
Cancellations, reschedules and no-shows
- A learner who cancels at least 24 hours before the lesson starts gets a refund of the lesson price. That includes test-day packages, counted from the lesson start, not the test (Learner Terms, clause 9). If they cancel later, you're paid what was kept from them, less commission (Instructor Terms, clause 13).
- If you cancel, do not attend, or cannot start or complete the service, the learner chooses a refund or a new time, including when they paid with prepaid hours. A refund of your lesson price comes off your payout, with the commission reversed (Instructor Terms, clause 13).
- Cancelling with less than 24 hours' notice for a reason within your control can cost up to $50. It's shown in your earnings before it comes off a payout, and you can ask us to review it. There's no charge for illness, emergencies or safety (clause 13).
- Cancel a booked slot only where delivering it would be unsafe, unlawful or genuinely impracticable, and do it through the platform (clause 13).
Reviews and ratings
Two hours after a lesson ends, the learner is emailed a review request. Reviews must reflect a genuine experience: you must not manipulate reviews, offer an undisclosed incentive, offer any incentive conditional on a positive review (disclosed or not), pressure learners for positive reviews, or retaliate for a genuine one (Code of Conduct, clause 9). LicenceLane may moderate unlawful, irrelevant, fraudulent or abusive content and applies its review standards fairly. Search ranking may use signals such as verification status, ratings and reliability, and no level of work or bookings is guaranteed (clause 3).
Keeping documents current
Each document with an expiry date is tracked, and LicenceLane reminds you before it lapses. If a licence, clearance, insurance or authority expires, is suspended or is restricted, you must report it immediately, and LicenceLane may pause affected listings while it checks (Instructor Terms, clause 4). You must give current insurance certificates on request (clause 6).
Leaving the platform
Either you or LicenceLane can end the agreement by written notice. Ending it does not cancel a confirmed booking (Instructor Terms, clause 16). Before a restriction or deactivation, LicenceLane tells you the substance of the concern and gives you a chance to respond, unless delay would create a material risk, and any applicable Fair Work deactivation process is followed. A restriction never blocks your records or undisputed earned payouts (clause 16).
